About Our Program

Black Tie Great Danes is a purpose-driven breeding program committed to the preservation and improvement of the Great Dane. Our focus is not simply producing puppies; it is producing sounder Great Danes through intentional selection, ethical practices, and a long-term vision centered on health, structure, and temperament.

Every decision within our program is made with the future of the breed in mind. We are dedicated to producing dogs that are not only beautiful by standard, but structurally sound, mentally stable, and capable of living long, healthy lives as true companions.

Our Beginning

Black Tie Great Danes began with a single dog and a commitment to learn the breed the right way.

In 2020, we welcomed our first Great Dane, who became the foundation of our education and involvement in the sport. Through hands-on experience, mentorship, and active participation, we developed a deeper understanding of structure, movement, conditioning, and what it truly takes to produce a quality Great Dane.

Since then, our program has evolved with intention. Each breeding is approached as an opportunity to improve—building on previous generations with greater focus on health, temperament, and proven ability. Our dogs are evaluated not only in the home, but also through participation in conformation and performance venues, allowing us to make informed, objective breeding decisions.

While we have owned and worked with Great Danes from a variety of respected lines, a defining milestone for our program came this year when we finished our first bred-by champion bitch, produced from our own breeding program. This achievement reflects the direction we are committed to—developing dogs that meet the standard through our own program, not relying solely on outside lines.

Our Philosophy

We believe that a well-bred Great Dane must be the complete package—sound in body, stable in mind, and supported by strong genetics. These elements are inseparable. Structure influences longevity, temperament determines suitability in the home, and health underpins everything.

Our goal is to create consistency and predictability in our lines by:

  • Selecting breeding dogs based on proven quality—not convenience
  • Pairing dogs to complement strengths and improve weaknesses
  • Prioritizing long-term outcomes over short-term results

We are committed to being intentional, selective, and accountable in every aspect of our program.

Our Standards

At Black Tie Great Danes, there are no shortcuts. Every dog considered for our breeding program must meet strict criteria before ever being paired.

This includes:

  • Comprehensive health testing appropriate for the breed
  • Structural evaluation in alignment with the Great Dane standard
  • Thorough temperament assessment in real-world environments
  • Ongoing evaluation as the dog matures

We produce a limited number of carefully planned litters, allowing us to focus on quality, proper development, and individualized attention.

How Our Dogs Are Raised

Our dogs are raised in a home environment as part of daily life, not in isolation. This allows us to develop and evaluate temperament in a meaningful, real-world way.

Puppies are given a strong foundation through:

  • Early neurological and environmental exposure
  • Regular handling and social interaction
  • Introduction to everyday household sights and sounds
  • Age-appropriate structure and confidence-building experiences

This approach helps ensure our puppies transition smoothly into their new homes as adaptable, well-adjusted companions.

Experience & Approach

Our background in hands-on care and bodywork contributes to how we evaluate and maintain our dogs. We place strong emphasis on physical condition, movement, and overall structural integrity, understanding how these factors directly impact comfort, function, and longevity in a giant breed.

We are committed to continual learning, thoughtful breeding practices, and maintaining a program that reflects both knowledge and responsibility.

Our Placement Philosophy

We believe that placing a puppy is just as important as breeding one. For that reason, we do not operate on a first-come, first-served basis.

Each puppy is matched to a home based on:

  • Temperament and energy level
  • Structure and potential (companion, sport, or show)
  • Lifestyle compatibility

Our goal is to create successful, lasting placements where both the dog and the owner thrive.

Commitment Beyond the Sale

Our responsibility does not end when a puppy leaves our care. We remain a resource for our puppy families for the lifetime of the dog.

We provide:

  • Ongoing guidance and support
  • A commitment to always take back one of our dogs if needed
  • Clear contracts that protect both the puppy and the buyer

We stand behind every dog we produce.

Our Responsibility to the Breed

Improving the Great Dane requires discipline, honesty, and a willingness to hold a high standard—even when it means doing less.

We do not breed every dog.
We do not cut corners.
We do not compromise on health, temperament, or structure.

Every litter represents a step forward—or it should not happen at all.
